"Uncle Abdul," Juice: Electricity for Pleasure and Pain
(Greenery, 1998), paperback, $11.95

The publisher, Greenery Press , June 4, 1999
Ben Franklin, eat your heart out!
The first and only book about how to use electricity safely and responsibly in the bedroom or dungeon. Includes a basic overview of the physics of electricity from the point of view of the S/M practitioner, an exploration of electricity's effects on the body, and descriptions of the many types of electricity toys. Call-outs and cartoons illustrate key points, and the wicked and pun-laden sense of humor of "Uncle Abdul," an electrical engineer and experienced S/M player, makes "Juice" as entertaining as it is informative.

Uull of heart and soul.
I feel as if I have read the most thought out guide into SM. Full of everyday thoughts and ideas that are shared by all of us. This book consists of information that is applicable to men and women of all ages. In addition, the essays can guide you to a leval of insight and self awareness of a higher level of spirituality. This is a book that I will share with great pride to my teachers and students through their journey of SM.

The Best Book on BDSM lifestyle available
If you are trying to understand the BDSM Lifestyle, want to get into it or just are interested in how people can "hurt so good", then this is the book! Mr Baldwin is the "John the Baptist" of the BDSM (Bondage/Discipline, Sado/Masochism) movement and a truly eloquent writer. Even if you have never "played" you will be moved. This book has changed many a life and turned many people (male and female) onto this lifestyle. Forget "the Story of O" and read the REAL THING.

an excellent enyclopedia for leathermen of all levels
Joseph Bean does an outstanding job of explaining, demystifying and clarifying many aspects of BDSM. It is from a gay male perspective and would probably not be of tremendous interest to hets or lesbians, but gay & bi/pansexual bio- & transmen should thoroughly enjoy Bean's work, no matter what their level of involvement in BDSM. He covers a wide variety of topics ranging from leather to bondage, BDSM relationships to finding partners, play parties to tools, etc. Plus Bean focuses on the importanct of the safe, sane & consensual principles. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

A wonderfully informative book on bottoming in D/s.
Thoroughly enjoyable read and great info and techniques on bottoming in the D/s Lifestyle. I learned a lot about how I fit into the submissive world. It teaches you how to negotiate your scene, find your "sacred space", how to "connect" wtih a Dom/Top, and much more. Great for newbies and experienced alike.

Practical, Fun, Lovingly Written
Wonderful reading for a new top. Dossie & Catherine give plenty of practical information and many great anecdotes of real-life scenes, and how D/S fits into a real life. This book will make you feel good about topping, and less fearful of trying. A great book to read after "Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns" and/or "SM101".

Good on some emotional & intellectual aspects of Topping.
I give this to many of the Tops that I play with, especially the beginners. It's a great start. However, it should be used in conjuction with information about technical use and safety. The sister book, _The_Bottoming_Book_, is also a really great book for novice or old fogey. Not positive about Old Guard, so keep that bias in mind.

So you want to be good at being bad, neh?
So you've finished "Screw the Roses, Send me the Thorns" and still want more? If you're a Top, then this is the next step.

Dossie Eaton and Catherine Liszt combine to make for a very powerful read--a necessity since being a Top IS powerful

. They take you by the hand and lead you through the ins and outs of being a Top. Their handling of the rights and responsibilities of Tops is superb and the book itself is laid out in an easy to understand and straightforward manner.

They also provide many useful hints and tricks that every good Top should know. Not the least of these is how to handle a scene gone wrong, an important skill since you WILL make mistakes.

Most of all though, they dispell the myths surrounding Tops and show us for the people we are-- warm, caring, careful, and concentual. If you're wanting to be a serious Top, then you need a serious book...THIS book..

Jack Rinella, The Masters Manual : A Handbook of Erotic Dominance
(Daedalus, 1994), $14.95, paperback.

Reviews

This is an essential read for anyone wanting to understand how S/M can be primal, when leather can be spiritual, why someone could be proud of being a sadist, or how to find joy and wholeness in our dark sides. Rinella notes that "attitude makes the difference between being a master and a top," and The Master's Manual is unequaled in its discussion of the attitude of power and the soul of a master. This is the second book any novice dominant or submissive should read. While the basic how-to of Sensuous Magic or Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns is essential, The Master's Manual builds on that knowledge with things such as "Rinella's Six Attributes Every Master Needs" (like self-confidence, trustworthiness, and acceptance of self), the strength and courage of submissives, the application of discipline, and suggestions on the training of submissives. It's a peerless resource for anyone who wants to be, or wants to understand, a master.

While much of the wisdom in The Master's Manual is gleaned from the gay leather scene, Rinella's honest and nonjudgmental writing is appropriate for people of any orientation who seek to learn more about the empowerment and ecstasy that can be found in leathersex. Each of the 40 pieces was written to stand alone, and they cover topics from how to become a master, why someone would want to, fiction and nonfiction leather classics and classics-to-be, contracts and commitments, how to deal with a scene gone wrong, and more. Taken together, they combine to form a picture of a world where "we can live our fantasies and face our fears. The real self can emerge from behind the mask of culture." --Cheryl Trooskin

An S&M book from one of the best in the field
For anyone who is interested in either entering the aura of leathersex or who is all ready involved, Leatherman's Handbook II is a must read. Written by Larry Townsend who is well respected within the leather world and also a contributor to the male bondage magazine, Bound and Gagged, this book follows along with his style. This is an easy book to read and understand with chapters dealing with anything from bondage techniques, bondage material, s&m techniques, meeting a partner and much more. Each chapter generally has a story that is relevant to the chapter's subject matter.

All though the book is more gay oriented much that is said can be applied to any situation. The picking of a partner is very important and Townsend goes into detail on this issue. Townsend also touches upon the use of drugs as well as other issues.

I enjoyed reading the book and found that its material was well written and worthy as a strong reference manual for what it discusses.

This book is certainly worth the high rating of "10".

D&S: The Message is Love
Dear Adventurers,

When I wrote "The Art of Sensual Female Dominance: A Guide for Women," my intention was to empower the budding domina and give her the practical instruction, combined with the basic psychological insight, necessary to bring the romance of consensual D&S into her and her partner's love life. I wanted to show her the beauty and joy that could be attained in a romantic SM relationship, and to show that SM is first and foremost about love, trust and communication. I wanted to share the power I found in D&S with my sexually adventurous sisters, hoping it would empower them the way that it did me.

And although I wrote the book for women, I am very pleased that many men have purchased it, too, either for themselves or as a gift for a loved one. I hope that your gift received a warm reception and that you are now on the road to a great sexual adventure with your new mistress.

Your favorable comments and reviews have touched my heart. I am delighted that you enjoyed reading my book as much as I enjoyed writing it. I hope you enjoy my next book, "Erotic Surrender: The Sensual Joys of Female Submission," due out here at Amazon. com in June of 99.

May your love reach higher than the heavens and your loyalty extend beyond the clouds.

Claudia Varrin
